Hello! Google Analytics processes the information received from the site, showing in reports data on visits, conversions, geolocation, provider, traffic source, operating system, and other parameters. The service includes dozens of filters, about 100 types of reports and many options, which allows you to set up analytics for a project of any complexity.

    Google Analytics counter connection
Data collection will start only after installing the JavaScript code on the site. The counter automatically records the visit as soon as the user goes to the search engine’s resource page, following links from another site, social networks, advertisements and other sources. The data is processed and displayed on the service panel in a form convenient for analysis.

Register or log in to the system by following the link http://www.google.com/analytics/
Go to the “Admin” panel and click “Create an account”. Come up with a clear title for the section so you don’t get confused later. An account is not the site itself, but a folder for projects.
Click the “Create resource” tab – here you start working directly with the site. Enter the title. Usually this is the project domain. Specify why you are connecting the Google Analytics counter – a website or a mobile application.

Enter the url of the resource.
Select an industry from the drop-down list and set the main time zone in which you work.
    Activate all checkboxes.
Click “Get ID” – this is the counter ID.
Agree to the terms and complete the procedure.

The service will display the Google Analytics counter code, which must be copied and installed on the site in the footer or in the page header between the tags. If you work with CMS systems, use specialized plugins. To set the code, it is enough to enter the counter ID in them.

    Google Analytics connection counter
How to check if the Google Analytics counter is connected correctly? To do this, go to your account, and in another window, open the site. In the analytics panel, click on the live reports tab. If the service shows that there is one user (you) on the page, then the code is installed correctly.

    Basic Google Analytics Tools
The service offers two types of data – parameters and metrics. Analytics tools measure various parameters of visits. These include: user’s geolocation, traffic source and much more. This information is located in the left column of the report. Metrics show the numerical values of the measured parameters. For example, bounce rate, session duration, number of users, and other data.

In Google Analytics, all reports are customized, that is, they are configured for specific project tasks. Any filter is easy to add and also easy to remove from the table. There are about 300 types of metrics and parameters in the system, so we will consider only the main ones:

    Sources of traffic (Acquisition). The tool captures the traffic coming to the site from various sources (source) and channels (medium). These metrics help analyze the number of visits;
Behavioral factors (Behavior). The report shows visitors’ involvement in the project, which helps to determine the success of the project indirectly. The main measurements here are bounce rate, average session duration, number of pages viewed per visit, events / user actions. Conversions. Data that show the site’s effectiveness in convincing the visitor to take the target action – call, send an application, buy, order a consultation, and more. The main metrics are the number of goals achieved, the conversion rate, ROI.
This “trinity” of Google Analytics tools is most often used in work, so they got their abbreviated name – ABC metrics.

    Google Analytics reports traffic sources
    Site traffic estimation parameters
This is perhaps the most frequently visited report. However, it is difficult for a beginner to grasp the system’s array of data immediately. For the convenience of analysis, we will divide the information into several categories:

General data on audience and attendance shows the total values of viewed pages, the number of unique and repeated sessions, the number of new visitors.
Audience characteristics. This metric considers users’ activity and engagement, geographic data by IP, the number of pages visited, and other parameters.
View depth helps to determine how many pages are viewed in one session, residence time. This parameter is highly dependent on the content and type of site. For example, it varies within 2-3 pages for information portals, and in online stores – 4-5.
Bounce rate. The service evaluates short visits as a failure. This means that the visitors were not interested in the information.
