What is an SSL certificate? How do I know if my website has an SSL certificate?
Hi Eleanor 🙂
The SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates a website and encrypts information sent to a server using SSL technology.
The importance of this certificate for Google has increased enormously since 2017. Especially the increase in online shopping has been effective here.
Google has now started showing websites with SSL certificates with the word “Secure” in green color and websites without SSL certificates with the phrase “Not Secure.” This has become very important as it affects the preferences of users to shop on the site. So SSL is now much more than a security protocol.
It also receives a ranking signal related to your site based on the availability of the Google SSL certificate. In this respect, SSL is a very important issue and should be emphasized.
You can use an SSL checker to see if you have an SSL certificate. The simplest way to do this is to come to the section of your site where the URL is located and click on the lock sign. The box that appears here will give you this information. In addition, if you do not have an SSL certificate, when you try to enter your site, it will warn you that “this site cannot provide secure connection” and your site’s URL address will start as HTTP, not HTTPS.
I hope I was able to help you with our answer 🙂
