Words are of English origin. Seo (Search Engine Optimization), search engine optimization sem, (Search Engine Marketing) is search engine marketing.
Before moving on to the differences between SEO and SEM, let’s make a basic definition of both. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, it is called Search Engine Optimization in Turkish. SEO is basically all of the work done to get sites or pages to the top of search engines like Google.
SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is Search Engine Marketing. The most popular SEM tool is Google’s Ads. SEM is briefly the process of making paid advertisements through search engines.

Persistence: Your permanence depends on your budget as you can be displayed in search results as much as your budget with Google Ads. Competition and cost in advertisements often cause your ads not to appear or to be in the lower ranks. For this reason, it is not permanent for your page to appear in the search results. In SEO, your permanence is maintained through correct and continuous studies.

Speed: Advertising studies such as SEM, Google Ads, Yandex Direct, give results faster than SEO. You can see the return of your ads within 1 day and you can reach the conversion reports. You can intervene, stop and re-create ads whenever you want. As for SEO, the results are not clear in 1-2 days as it requires a long term study. It may take several months to measure the impact and efficiency of SEO.

Cost: SEO has less cost than SEM. In SEM, the cost per click of the specified keywords is constantly changing compared to the bids of other advertisers, it is not at a fixed cost, it can show continuous increases.

Content Quality: As SEM has a commercial purpose, the contents may not be very satisfying for the user. Since the main purpose in SEO is user benefit, more user-friendly content is in the ranking.

Awareness: As you are on the platform with the SEM advertisements in proportion to your budget, your awareness will not be in mind. However, you can improve your rankings continuously with SEO studies, and you can present your brand in the showcase by going to the top. Its contribution to your brand awareness is very large and effective.
